Campaign: Find a Cure

Company: Crown Imports (Corona Extra and Corona Light)

Nonprofit Partner: The V Foundation

Launch Date: March 5, 2012

Campaign Description:

In a new cause marketing campaign, Corona invited consumers to make charitable contributions via QR-emblazoned displays or pin-ups at participating bars, restaurants and stores or online via The V Foundation website or Corona Extra or Corona Light Facebook pages.  The company also made a $75,000 donation to the foundation.

Our Take:

We luv (really luv) seeing sports and charity/community intersect… come on, sports-charity are two of our passion drivers… So this basketball-focused campaign was well-timed with the March college basketball tournament and it gave consumers multiple ways to engage both in stores and online.  A scan of the campaign’s QR code took users to a standard donation webpage – often tricky to maneuver via a mobile phone’s tiny screen.  Hopefully the multitude of other ways to donate to this well-integrated campaign compensated for any frustrated mobile users… we are digging to find the actual results BUT between the $75K donation and the limited awareness it seems like a well intentioned air ball… hopefully we are proven wrongly.

Help Find A Cure with Corona

It’s been a long day or even a long week and you know what would be really nice? A Corona, not just a Corona, but one with a lime in it. Then, just close your eyes and imagine you are on a beach and all you can hear is the waves crashing on the sand.

imageSounds nice, doesn’t it?

Corona and The V Foundation are partnering together in the fight against cancer this basketball season with “Help Find A Cure.”

From March 12 to April 2, participating bars and restaurants will be selling these paper basketballs. 100 percent of the donations will go directly to fund cancer research throughout the country through The V Foundation.

You can donate in stores too! Just scan the QR code on the Corona display and make your donation.

Who knew after a tough day at work, you could still save a life with your Corona Light?

The Athlife Foundation assists schools in creating the right kind of sport experiences for student-athletes through a platform that develops professional academic-athletic support positions in secondary education.

KarmaWell is thrilled to present Athlife with this check, and many more checks in the future. We love helping out great causes!

Facebook Chat with Help A Mother Out

Save the Date!

Here’s something you don’t see every day, but you probably will pretty soon: a Facebook chat as an event. Kind of like a Twitter party, this live discussion will happen on the Help A Mother Out Facebook Page on Wednesday, March 6, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Pacific Time. They’ll be talking about the humorous adventures of parenthood, online shopping, and how you can easily make donations to charity without even really thinking about it. KarmaWell will be joining and offering prizes and a diaper donation.

Help a Mother Out is a nationally-recognized grassroots organization raising diapers, awareness, and advocating for long term change in the social safety net. They are dedicated to increasing access to diapers for families in need. Their vision is a day when every baby has a healthy supply of diapers.

The more people install and use this app and select HAMO as the beneficiary, the more we’ll be able to collect to help get diapers on babies. Everybody wins! For every installation of KarmaWell that happens as a result of the Facebook chat, KarmaWell will donate diapers to Ascencia, a homeless shelter in the Los Angeles area.

We’ll be joined on the chat by some pretty great ladies who have funny and inspiring stories to tell about motherhood and parenting. Come on over and join us – it will be fun and you’ll be doing a good thing.

The Myth of the Black Friday Deal

Turns out standing in long lines while stuffed with turkey and cranberry sauce may not be as beneficial as you think.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443615804578042700772445448.html

The Wall Street Journal has completed a Six Year study that revealed some interesting results. It turns out that many gifts are often priced below Black Friday levels at various times throughout the year. Some items, like watches and jewelry, actually get more expensive as the season progresses.

Prices for some gifts are lowest early in the holiday season before retailers gradually raise prices. That’s RIGHT NOW!

Hot items like Uggs and Flat Screen TV’s actually get more expensive as we get closer to Christmas. Buying early could help you snag an item before prices rise as supplies become tight. And toys are some of the highest risers when it comes to holiday price inflation. So now is the time to get online and start looking for deals!

KarmaWell retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Amazon are already offering great deals on tons of products. And they all help you raise donations for your cause(s) while you buy gifts for your loved ones.

So don’t get caught waiting in line or scrambling to make some last minute purchases in December. Go Causing Now!

KarmaWell was recently a Co-Sponsor for the 4th Annual Sports Marketing and Sponsorship Symposium.

The event was managed by IMG and McGuire Woods, and included a number of excellent panels covering a wide array of sports topics including Collegiate Sports, Social Media, Corporate Sponsorships, and the 2012 London Olympics.

Panelists included:

Steve Tseng, Senior Vice President, Business Development, IMG

Marc Reeves, International Commercial Director, NFL

Vince Broady, Chief Executive Officer, Thismoment.com

Dan Osipow, Senior Vice President, Corporate Sponsorship Manager, Bank of the West

KarmaWell’s own Darren Rankin and Brian Pope also had a hand in the conference and there were a number of other fantastic panelists. The event was a huge success, and I’m sure there will be another followup next year.

School Supplies For Those In Need

Check out some of the great things going on across the Bay.

http://blog.sfgate.com/inoakland/2012/08/22/oakland-nonprofit-to-donate-280-backpacks-school-supplies-to-east-oakland-elementary-school/

With Back to School season in full swing, we should all keep in mind those that are less fortunate.

Capture the Dream, based in Oakland, is doing their part to ensure that hundreds of needy children are ready for the upcoming school year. The Cause is donating 280 backpacks filled with school supplies to benefit every student at Acorn Woodland Elementary in East Oakland.

The DreamPack Campaign was held from July through August to raise funds in order to provide local school children with tools essential to their learning.

Acorn Woodland was chosen based on an application process and the number of students in the government-subsidized free lunch program that exceeded the state average. This year more than 25 applications were received.

While you finish up your own Back-To-School shopping at some of our great retailers like Target, Staples, or Office Depot be sure to keep in mind those less fortunate who may be in need. There are always ways to Go Causing! in your everyday life!
